SPECIAL SERVICES
Several times throughout the year we have special services that celebrate important times of year in our life together as a congregation.
Wait with anticipation during Advent, celebrate on Christmas Eve, go deeper during Lent and Holy Week, and rejoice with gladness on Easter Sunday. Pilgrim Church offers Holiday services and Special services throughout the year. We hope you will join us as we worship God in community.
The two sacraments in the UCC are Baptism and Communion. Each time we take Communion, we remember Jesus and his disciples before his crucifixion and resurrection. We pray for the day when sharing by all will mean scarcity for none.
In the UCC, we are symbolically one with Christ in the Sacrament of Baptism. Baptism with water and the Holy Spirit is the mark of a person’s acceptance into the care of Christ’s church, the sign of their participation in God’s forgiveness, and the beginning of their growth into the Christian faith.
Lent is observed during the 40-days (excluding Sundays) that lead up to Easter. During Lent, we take time for turning and returning to God. We self-examine, and reflect honestly about where we have been and where we would like to grow in our lives and in our relationships with others and God. We ask for God’s help in preparation for Holy Week and Easter.
Advent marks the beginning of the Christian Liturgical Year, a time to pause to prepare our hearts and minds for the birth of Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Each Sunday in Advent, we light a new Advent Wreath candle, symbolizing hope, peace, joy, and love to prepare for Christmas to come.
July and August services begin at 9:30 am in air-conditioned Pilgrim Hall. Summer Worship is mostly lay-led with lay preachers addressing a particular theme, topic, or sharing their faith journey.
