Your First Visit

We have all experienced the uncertainty of visiting a church for the first time. And while we’ve tried to answer some of the most common questions here, please remember – there is no better way to get to know us than to actually join us on a Sunday morning.

WHEN IS WORSHIP?

Worship services are held every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. (9:30 a.m. in July and August). We suggest you arrive approximately 10 minutes early to give you time to park and find a seat.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

Our address is 55 Coolidge Avenue in historic Lexington, Massachusetts.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Wear whatever feels right for you. You’ll notice that on any given Sunday some people dress a little more formally while others prefer much more casual clothing.

WHERE DO I PARK?

We have ample parking behind or in front of the church, or along Coolidge Avenue. We also have a bike rack on the left side of the building near the pine trees for those who wish to bike.

WILL SOMEONE GREET ME WHEN I ARRIVE?

Yes!  It doesn’t matter if you’ve been coming to Pilgrim for decades or this is your first visit – we always have a family, couple or individual who is there to say hello to everyone who visits the church.

HOW LONG DOES WORSHIP LAST?

Approximately one hour, followed by a social hour where everyone is welcome!

WHERE SHOULD I SIT?

We have open seating everywhere which includes the sanctuary and balcony. Please find a seat that is comfortable for you.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

A traditional, but not formal mixture of scripture, preaching, music, and prayer. Communion is offered to all on the first Sunday of the month, and occasionally we have special services including baptisms, mission project celebrations, as well as youth and children-led services. Before entering the sanctuary, our ushers will give you a bulletin for that week’s order of service which includes prayers, hymns, announcements, and an upcoming calendar of events.

ARE CHILDREN INCLUDED?

Yes! Children are an important part of Pilgrim Church. Every Sunday, there is a Children’s Message that takes place approximately 20 minutes into the service. At that time, children are invited to sit up at the front of the church for a brief message. At the end of the message, children are invited to attend church school in our classrooms downstairs.  You are also welcome to accompany your child if that makes your child feel more comfortable.  We just want you to know that even though your child is invited to everything, s/he should feel free to participate in all of it, some of it, or none of it!  Children are always more than welcome to just stay with you and attend the service.  It’s really up to you and your child to decide what’s best for both of you.  There is no pressure on your child to “do” anything!

IS THERE CHILDCARE?

Professional childcare is available from September to June. There is also a soundproof room just outside the balcony which is equipped with speakers, toys and children’s books so that restless little ones and their parents can still listen to and enjoy the service.

WHAT IF I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS?

You will – and we are here to answer all of them! Please contact us by email admin@pilgrimcongregational.org or call us at 781-862-0357.  Better yet, join us for social hour after worship and introduce yourself. We look forward to meeting you and getting to know you better.
